Any business with a recurring subscription that doesn't create new value each month is going to struggle.
That's become crystal clear to me recently, especially when it comes to AI tools.
Any business with a recurring subscription that doesn't create new value each month is going to struggle.
That's become crystal clear to me recently, especially when it comes to AI tools.
There's a very popular AI tool out there that I didn't want to pay a subscription for.
Here's the thing: the software could be run entirely locally. There was no justification for an ongoing fee. The value just wasn't there month after month.
I had Claude build me a tool that does the same thing in an afternoon. And it keeps the data 100% local. No subscription. No recurring charges. Just a tool that works.
This approach reminds me of industry rules revisited. Sometimes the conventional way of doing things isn't the right way. Sometimes you need to question whether a subscription model actually makes sense for what you're getting.
Stay tuned. After a little more time of friends and employees testing it to ensure it's production worthy, I will release it for everyone. And of course, when building tools like this, you need to be mindful of the hidden risk of copy pasting AI content into your workflows without proper review.
Subscriptions need to earn their keep. If a tool can run locally and doesn't provide ongoing value, why pay monthly for it? Build it yourself or find an alternative.
The bottom line? Don't pay recurring fees for software that doesn't deliver recurring value. Question the model. Look for better solutions.
Keep an eye out for the tool release. It's coming soon.
