Why Are Big Company Websites So Bad?
I am amazed all the time at how big businesses have such terrible websites.
Table of Contents
The Problem
I got a bill from a hospital recently and noticed something alarming.
The URL to make the payment included a bunch of gibberish instead of being a clean URL like payments.domain.com.
If I did not know better, I would have thought it was a phishing site.
Making Things Worse
Then, when clicking the button to create an account, it just goes to a blank white page.
Nothing happens.
No error message, no redirect, just white space.
Finding Workarounds
Their main website, separate from this payment portal, had a link to make a payment without an account.
So I was able to get it paid.
But I do not think most people would investigate as far as I did.
Conclusion
Big businesses often have websites that look more suspicious than legitimate, creating unnecessary barriers for customers trying to complete simple tasks.
If you run a business, make sure your website actually works and looks trustworthy.
