When surfing around to new sites, one of my pet peeves is an outdated copyright date. I am not sure why I find this annoying, however part of it may be that it is so easy to fix. Here is how to automatically update the copyright year on your site. This works for WordPress sites and any other site running php.
You edit your footer.php file and find where it displays your copyright date. It will probably look something like this.
© 2014 YourDomainName.com
You want to replace it with this.
© <?php echo date(‘Y’); ?> YourDomainName.com
The php echo will ensure that your copyright date is always current and you will help me not be frustrated when I visit your site.
